Nikki's Thinkin'

  • Holiday weight gain

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

Today I'm thinking about holiday weight gain. I'm sure I'm not the only one. I read some tips today on easy ways to lose weight. Eat Tomatoes! Apparently the same thing that makes tomatoes red also banishes your appetite! Eat slowly. The slower you eat the more time your body has to communicate with your brain to let it know you're full. Drink lots of water!

Wouldn't it be nice if we all had a nutritionist and a personal trainer to turn to after the holidays?

Dolly Parton tells GAC that she has to work hard at staying trim. She says, "I've been every size in the world in my lifetime, but I've got my weight pretty much where I want it now. I'm just a little more conscious of it these days." She says, "I have a natural energy of my own because I certainly don't dance, and I'm not great with choreographers. I'm not real big on exercise. I'd rather think and write and all that, but I do have to watch what I eat, especially the older I get. I'm a short, little person so I have to really kind of watch the amounts that I eat."

Portion control. That's a lesson most people could learn from Dolly. It's so hard to do over the holidays though when there's so much food and people trying to shove it down your throat constantly. Little bits of everything that's the trick.

  • Celebs chasing down celebs

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

Today I'm thinking about how you know you've made it as a celebrity. I think once you start getting chased down by other celebrities that might be the point in which you can really sit back and say "Yup I'm somebody."

Taylor Lautner has tons of fans and after seeing "New Moon" I totally understand why every teenage girl in America has a poster featuring his image hanging on their bedroom wall. He's used to girls calling out his name and chasing him down everywhere he goes, but one day amidst all the high pitched screaming he heard a deep voice running up behind him. Taylor recalls, "'Taylor, Taylor!...and this guy walks up to me and he goes 'Hey...my daughter is a huge fan, and I'm a huge fan is there any way I can get a picture with you? I'm Jamie Foxx.'"

WOW! Can you imagine having a huge celebrity like Jamie Foxx tell you he's a huge fan of yours?

Taylor replied, "Are you kidding me? Can I get a picture with you?"

  • Joe Nichols

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

Today I'm thinking of the Joe Nichols show at RJ's Bullshooters Saloon this Saturday night. It's going to be a fun holiday party with all sorts of people in their ugliest Christmas sweaters, fun prizes and a great show!

Joe Nichols has been a busy guy he recently performed for our troops in Iraq and he tells GAC that he wishes more country stars would do the same. He says, "I'm embarrassed that a lot of very successful country music artists that don't need the money right now, haven't even sniffed the possibility of going to Iraq or Afghanistan. Why not? It takes two weeks of your time; it doesn't cost you a dime. What you get out of it is worlds of appreciation and who doesn't want that?"

I think it's great that artists make it a point to designate some time in their busy lives to bring a little home to the troops overseas. Toby Keith is known for doing that, Neal McCoy, and many others have been involved with the USO to show their appreciation for what those men and women are doing for us. Lee Ann Womak says, "The troops have a special place in my heart. Working with the USO to welcome home these brave men and women is a great opportunity for me to show them how much I appreciate their great sacrifce."

It's nice that in country music we can associate ourselves with artists who think beyond themselves and do good things just because they're good for other people.

  • Evolution of Country

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

Today I'm thinking about how much country music has changed over the last 6 decades.

It has evolved into something new. Some hybrid between country and rock and even a little hip-hop.

One country artist in particular draws inspiration from hip-hop. Luke Bryan admits he likes hip-hop a lot. He recently got to see T-Pain perform and said, "I don't get many opportunities to go outside of my box and watch a hip-hop show of that magnitude and when you see the energy from a hip-hop show I was like immediately going, 'Oh, I could do that in my show,' and not over the top stuff, but you understand why hip-hop does so well.  It's a high energy show and I think in the end that's what it's all about-to make a high energy show."

I truly believe that's why country has survived so long with so much success because it has evolved.

  • Tight Lipped Taylor

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery
Today I'm thinking about Rolling Stone. Twilight Saga: New Moon star Taylor Lautner (Jacob) graces the cover of the latest issue of Rolling Stone and is pretty tight lipped about his relationship with Taylor Swift. He dies say that he and Swifty "instantly clicked" while they were working on the upcoming film Valentine's Day. He shares, "Aside from being beautiful, she's extremely funny, charismatic and fun to be around." Why wouldn't he be love-struck by her? Though neither of them will open up about it. She seems to leave positive impressions on every single person she meets! Cheyenne Kimball from Gloriana describes Taylor Swift as a "good listener" and someone who is very "giving with her time." She adds that talking with Swift is like seeing a therapist, noting, "She's smart, she reads a lot of books and she's great." Sounds like everyone loves her as much as I do. • The Blind Side

    The Blind Side

Today I'm thinking about THE BLIND SIDE. Now that I've seen the other movie I was dying to see I'm ready to check this one out. I love Sandra Bullock and I've heard that Tim McGraw is good in it too. Besides that the story looks amazing.

Some of Tim's friends got a chance to check out the movie already. Kenny Chesney tells CMT, "I was very proud of him. It definitely shows how diverse he is as an artist, as a talent. There was a moment of jealousy; I'll have to admit, when he was lying in bed with Sandra Bullock. I went, 'That's really my buddy Tim McGraw in bed with Sandra Bullock.'"

Kenny is funny! Tim is married to one of the most beautiful women in Country Music Faith Hill, but he's jealous of him acting married to Sandra Bullock.

I'm hoping to catch this one over the weekend, but I'm gonna be pretty busy so I'm not sure it will work out. I'll keep you posted.

  • Saw New Moon!

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

Today I'm thinking about NEW MOON the second movie in the Twilight Saga. I loved it! Josh took me to see it on Saturday night. Opening weekend was huge! NEW MOON was the 3rd highest grossing movie on it's opening weekend of all time! Right behind THE DARK KNIGHT and SPIDERMAN 3.

We knew it would be crazy busy being opening weekend and all so we bought our tickets for the Mega Screen in Stevens Point 3 hours early and they were already nearly sold out! We arrived at the theater about an hour early and we were 150 people or so back in line waiting to get in while the last showing wrapped up.

The movie was really good! Josh didn't think it was worth the wait, but also thought it was good. It was way truer to the book than the first so I was happy about that and Josh was happy that it had more action than the first.

I know what it was like at our little theater I can't imagine what it was like at some of the openings in the big cities! The cast was at the Thursday night opening in New York City and Peter Facinelli who plays Dr. Carlisle Cullen said, "That was pretty phenomenal. To show up somewhere and have six blocks of screaming fans is pretty fantastic."

I love Peter Facinelli! He Tweets regularly, he is handsome, you never have to wonder about his relationship status because he is happily married to Jennie Garth and has three beautiful little girls and he plays a seriously cool vampire! He of course gets hidden in the shadows of Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, but in my world he's great!!

Can I be on Team Carlisle?

  • John Mayer Praises Taylor Swift

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

    11/20/09

Today I'm thinking about the new song that John Mayer & Taylor Swift are working on together.

John Mayer thinks Taylor Swift has a "fresh voice" and tells Access Hollywood "There's something about Taylor that she would have been a star in any decade." The two worked together on the song "Half of My Heart" off his new album, Battle Studies.

Mayer reportedly asked Swift to work with him through Twitter by telling her that he could hear her on the track. He explains, "I don't normally make records to share tracks with people. I've never had somebody's name underneath the title of my song and I couldn't be happier that she's on there."

Mayer has a very high opinion of the young star saying that it's "totally sweet" that "Taylor Swift is the last person to know she's Taylor Swift." He adds, "It's great to have someone who's hugely talented and still able to receive the pleasure in all moments."

I love that Taylor Swift not only makes a positive impression on fans, but also on her peers in the business. She is such a great young girl and I hope that she always stays that way! This girl amazes me more and more everyday. I can't imagine anyone else on earth more deserving of the recognition she's received.

  • Carrie Underwood supports Idols

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

Today I'm thinking about American Idol thanks to Carrie Underwood. Carrie Underwood obviously got her start on Idol by winning the competition in 2005, but she hasn't left the show in her past. She told Reuters that she thinks it's extremely important for Idols to stay true to what the audience voted for to achieve success.

Kris Allen last year's winner, runner-up Adam Lamber and Allison Iraheta are all set to release albums in the next few weeks. Underwood reveals that out of last season's American Idol contestants she was a fan of Kris Allen and Danny Gokey. Carrie and I have something in common because I was a huge fan of Danny's too if you recall.  As a side note: Danny Gokey will be releasing a country CD in 2010, YAY!!

Carrie also proudly supports my fav from 2 seasons ago 2008 winner David Cook who will appear on her Fox variety special, Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special, on December 7th. Joining her and Cook are Kristin Chenoweth and Dolly Parton. Dolly's participation on the show was a "dream come true" for Carrie. She adds, "When Dolly's there, you just sort of step out of the spotlight and let her do her thing, because no matter how hard you try she's going to steal the spotlight, and it's great."

  • New Moon Opens FRIDAY

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

Today I'm thiniking about New Moon opening Friday. I really want to see this movie! I am a Twi-hard for sure! I read all the books and keep up with all the gossip and I'm a fan of Twilight on Facebook. I've watched the Twilight Movie 3 times and I can't wait to see New Moon!

My sister is as big a Twi-hard as I am and she already has her movie tickets for Friday night! She and I have been blabbering about it since the trailer first premiered on the MTV awards show! She and I usually meet up at my parents house so my mom always gets to listen to us chirp about Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner and how hot they are. She doesn't get it. She tried watching the Twilight movie, but got so distracted by Robert Pattinson's eyebrows and messy hair that she couldn't watch it!  Funny!

Though I agree Robert Pattinson has to get those eyebrows under control I kinda like the hair. In an interview once Rob said "The hair is 75% of my performance" not sure what that means exactly, but I think he likes it and I don't think it's going anywhere.

Messy or not Robert Pattinson and his hair will both be on the big screen this Friday as Edward Cullen and I'm happy!

  • Swifty

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

Today I'm thinking about the rumors about Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner dating and I wonder if all the denial may be under the advice of the New Moon people. Maybe they think the movie will sell better to the teens if Taylor is seen as available since he does play a sexy wolf who's in love with Bella in this movie.

No matter who's asking Taylor says she's single. She says, "I've never thought it was a curse to be single, and at this poin in my life, I'm in the mind-set where I choose to be single-like I got to light scented candles and write in my diary and I wouldn't have time for that if I had a boyfriend right now!" Taylor does say that she and Lautner have "gotten really close" and that shooting thier upcoming movie, Valentine's Day, together was an interesting experience since the pair have the same first name. She shares, "It would be confusing on set with two Taylors in the same scene. They were like, 'Taylor, on your mark-no, not you, the other one!' So halfway through the shoot, I said, 'How about you guys call me Swifty and call him Taylor?'" Her co-star commented on the experience as well, saying that Swift "is hilarious" and that "it was definitely not hard to play her love interest."

  • Too Soon?

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

Today I'm thinking about Taylor Swift. Since Taylor won Entertainer of the Year at this year's CMAs some artists including Wynona and Randy Travis have come out and said that it is way too soon for her to win such an honor. However, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw and Reba amoung others have said that she was totally deserving of the honor. She worked hard for it and she's had a lot of success and that's what the award is all about.

Do you think that it was too soon for her to win? Are you concerned that winning awards will become less of an honor now that she's won the top prize so young?

How much stock you think artists put into awards? The honor is nice, but do you think that Kenny Chesney has all of his awards on his mantel or do they get put into a box and shoved in the attic? Nascar driver, Carl Edwards gives his tropheys away when he wins it's only the win that counts he doesn't really care about the trophey. I think Brad Paisley put it best when he said "I like winning awards, I don't like reminders of the past all that much. Nor do I have time to dust or polish the statuettes, so my parents take care and display most of them at their house." I hear ya Brad, I hate dusting!

Regardless of what she does with the award or how early in her career she won it, I think Taylor Swift deserves the CMA for Entertainer of the Year. I think Taylor has a good enough head on her shoulders that no matter how often she wins it this will always be the biggest win in her career, but she'll value every future win as well.
