  • Announcement

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

13 weeksI am excited to announce that Josh and I are expecting our 2nd baby in late October/early November.

I'm 13 weeks along and feeling good. Started out a little rougher than when I was pregnant with Mia, but I'm starting to get some energy back and I'm over the nausea. Unfortunately I've been getting headaches a lot lately. I have suffered from migraines since I was a teenager, but when I got pregnant with Mia they went away and I hardly had headaches since, but they're back! I had a migraine so bad a couple weekends ago that I almost couldn't get up and around. My doctor said it's pretty common for women at the beginning of the 2nd trimester to get headaches so he gave me a prescription to take if they get really bad otherwise just Tylenol.

So far so good. As you can see I'm showing already so my wardrobe is shrinking quickly. Too small for maternity clothes and too big for many of my regular clothes. It's not real obvious yet so people just think you're fat. This stage is a bummer, but it won't last long. Everyone keeps telling me you get so much bigger so much faster with baby number 2.

Thank you for all the congratulations this morning on Facebook after we announced it on air today.

  • Reese Witherspoon says baby stole her brain

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

Reese WitherspoonIn an interview before she was arrested for disorderly conduct, Reese Witherspoon admits she's lost her mind, and her new son Tennessee is to blame. "Ever since I had the baby, I can't remember anything. Serious, this child stole my brain," Witherspoon who's son Tennessee is about 7 months old, tells Red magazine. "I'm losing friendships over forgetting to get back to people. But you can't keep up with everything. I've got a 13-year-old [Ava], a 9-year-old [Deacon] and a baby." She says that keeping track of her children is, "like a CNN ticker tape running through my mind at all times...'Where's Ava? She's okay. Good. Where's Deacon? He's okay. Good. Where is Tennessee? Is he okay? Yes. Great. Back to Ava...' It doesn't stop."

I only have one kid and sometimes I feel like I've lost my mind. Do you feel this way?

  • Diaper Free Baby

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

diaperThis may not be what you're thinking. Most of you are probably thinking, "Yay potty training," but not quite. Diaper free baby means never putting a diaper on your baby. Some parents are actually not diapering their babies at all, it's called "elimination communication." Here's how it works: parents recognize their child's need to go number 1 or number 2 by looking for signs like facial expressions and noises then hold them over the toilet (or a garbage can or a bush) whatever is convenient. This is supposed to reduce environmental impact by doing away with disposable diapers and it fosters better communication between babies and parents.

If you're worried about the environmental impact of disposable diapers use cloth. This is completely unrealistic. Think about a trip to the grocery store. Now think about how often a newborn goes to the bathroom. Using this method you would never be able to take your eyes off your baby's face because you wouldn't want to miss a cue. So you're walking through the store you have your list in hand and your baby in a place you can easily see his or her face. You need onions, but you can't just grab any old onion and throw it in the cart can you? Of course you have to touch at least three of them to find the one that is nice and firm and doesn't have any strange spots on it. OOPS! Your baby just peed all over the produce aisle. Okay now that's cleaned up and you've changed baby's clothes (there's more laundry you have to do so more water you have to waste) so you continue your shopping. You've loaded your cart with most of the items on your list, you've just got to grab the milk and eggs in the very back corner of the store, where it always is you know, and your baby makes that sound and her face is starting to scrunch up...OH NO!! There's no way you're gonna make it to the front of the store to hang her over the toilet. Is there a garbage can nearby? No! It's too late. There goes another outfit.

Sounds like a pretty bad idea to me. What do you think of elimination communication? Would you ever try this with your kids?

  • Another local family needs our prayers

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

The Stargardt family from Chippewa Falls is currently living at Children's Hospital in Milwaukee. Travis and Bridget's beautiful little boy Jay is fighting for his life right now and needs your prayers.

    (from the family's facebook page)
    Meet Jay Stargardt:

This courageous little guy is 22 months old and fighting for his life against cancer for the second time. On June 16, 2012, at just 13 months of age, Jay was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma. He had a tumor that took up most of the left side of his chest and involved his spinal cord. He faced 8 rounds of chemo and surgery with an incorrigible sense of humor. Tragedy struck again on January 4, 2013 when Jay was diagnosed with therapy-related leukemia; the treatment to save him from Neuroblastoma had given him a second cancer. He is currently under-going a bone marrow transplant to battle the leukemia. This amazing little guy finds reasons to smile even though he can’t even leave his hospital room. His strength is amazing!
This poor little boy's body has been invaded by another monster, Veno-occlusive disease (VOD), which caused him to be put on a ventilator. His condition has improved enough to be taken off the ventilator and doctors are optimistic that the medication he's on is doing it's job. Jay's family is so happy to be able to hold him again.
Follow this little sweetheart's story on the MARCH WITH JAY'S ARMY Facebook page.
You can also help by participating in the March with Jay's Army is a 5K walk/run to raise money for childhood cancer research. The first annual run will take place on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Wildwood Park in Marshfield, WI.

  • Kate Middleton's itty bitty baby bump

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

kateKate Middleton showed off her itty bitty baby bump at a primary school in Manchester yesterday to launch a new counseling program for kids whose parents suffer from addiction.

The 31-year-old dutchess is due with the royal baby in July which is the same month that Kim Kardashian and Jessica Simpson are both due. There is a big difference in the images of these celebrities. E!Online is constantly comparing Kim and Kate's pregnancies, which isn't fair at all because these two women are built completely different from one another. Kim and Jessica are both being called fat, but I think they look like normal pregnant women at 7 months along. Kate looks like she's about 4 or 5 months pregnant.

Little bellies can mean little babies and little babies could be unhealthy babies. I sure hope that's not the case for Kate and William.

Do you think Kate's baby belly is too small?

When I was 7 months pregnant with Mia I was much more comparable to Kim and Jessica than Kate! My pregnancy picture is below.

    Kim & Jess

    Nikki 7 months

It's not realistic for a woman to look at Kate and say, "that's how I should look when I'm 7 months pregnant." Weight gain is good and big bellies are good they make healthy babies.

This is me when I was 7 months pregnant. During my pregnancy with Mia I gained 24 pounds, but I felt like my belly was huge! My sister in law was 6 months behind me and her belly was pretty small (not like Kate Middleton's, but much smaller than mine), but she is also 3 or 4 inches taller than me so she has a lot more verticle room to carry a baby.

When you're short like me, Jessica Simpson and Kim Kardashian bellies just have to stick out more because where else is the baby supposed to go?

Embrace your baby belly and don't worry about the weight you gain until after the baby comes. Well, don't go crazy and gain too much weight because that's not good for the baby either, but don't stress yourself out about the 2 pounds a month you should be gaining.

  • Developing a personality

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

mia princessMia is nearly 18 months old and she is so much fun right now. I love this age. She is starting to develop a personality and learn her boundaries. When you tickle her she tickles you back. She tries to repeat words we say. She loves wearing jewelry. Tangled is her favorite movie. She pretends to read to herself, sings songs and loves to dance.

She does things she knows she's not supposed to when she thinks we're not looking and sometimes even when we are. Then gives us a look like she's getting away with something.

She does silly things all the time to make us laugh.

My mom tells me that every age is the best age, but can it really get better than this?

    What is your favorite age?

My niece Lizzy turns 1 in two weeks so we get to do this all over again. I'm so excited.

  • Jessica Simpson has another baby shower

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

baby 2Jessica Simpson and fiance Eric Johnson are expecting baby number 2 this summer. Jess's daughter Maxwell will have a baby brother.

Over the weekend friends including Jessica Alba and her sister Ashlee Simpson joined Jess to celebrate her new addition with a baby shower. She received gifts including bath toys, new video monitor, a high chair, kid carrier, and an activity play gym.

Is it okay to have a baby shower for your second child?

I was taught that you have one baby shower and the second child gets the hand me downs. If you have a child of the opposite gender the second time around you just hit up garage sales and watch the sale racks at your favorite store.

I knew somone who had a baby shower for her first, third and fourth kids. That to me just seems like you're asking too much of your friends.

  • Crazy Hair!

Oh Mia and that crazy hair! I don't know how to tame it. It is so fine that it gets snarled up and it is constant static. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with this wild mess?

  • Portia De Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres will not have children

    Posted by Nikki Montgomery

Ellen PortiaEllen DeGeneres' wife Portia De Rossi told Out magazine that she and Ellen will not have children. "There comes some pressure in your mid-30s, and you think, Am I going to have kids so I don't miss out on something that other people really seem to love? Or is it that I really genuinely want to do this with my whole heart?" she explained. "I didn't feel that my response was 'yes' to the latter."

Ellen, 55, and Portia, 40, are happy just being a couple and neither ever wanted kids. Both say they've never been happier. Ellen said in a recent episode of her show that the person she is most inspired by is Portia. Portia says they support each other and are incredibly happy which is why we don't see them in the press much.
