Please pay special attention to your children and take time to talk to them about what's going on in their life. Remember, just because their problem might not seem like a big deal to us, it could be a super big deal to them!
Here's a letter from a friend of mine who lost her son, Cody, last year...
Hi Everyone I wanted to make you all aware that today September 10th is National Suicide Awareness Day. As some of you are aware on April 26th 2011 my life was forever changed when my youngest son at the age of sixteen took his own life. Suicide has so many faces and so many different stories, whether it be like Cody due to a broken heart or do to bullying, or just plain old depression. We need to help our society to see that suicide does not make the victim a Bad person. They are still somebody's son, daughter, mother, father, sister, brother or friend and because they made the discussion to leave this world earlier than expected does not make them any less the people that we loved. Cody will be forever missed by my family his friends, team mates, and my CHN family. Please always keep your ears and heart open to someone in need. Sometimes all it takes is a shoulder to cry on or a chance to speak of their feelings.
I ask you all to please take just a moment of your time today and say a little prayer not only for my son but for all the men and woman who have held such secret sadness that they chose to end their own lives.
Thank you all, and God Bless-
